As of this hour, no deal has been struck between lawmakers and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on closing an estimated $26 billion hole in the budget for the fiscal year that began July 1.

On July 19, Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, a Los Angeles Democrat, predicted a deal would be consummated before the end of the week. The GOP governor’s press secretary also said negotiators were closing in on a solution.
