Jerry Waldie gave me my first job back in 1971 clipping articles of interest for his Congressional office from all of the local papers and pasting them in a book for him. He sent signed letters to people marking milestones in their careers and personal lives. This part-time job enabled me to pay my way to Germany in the summer of 1972 to be a cultural exchange student in Germany. I admit I probably got the job through nepotism - my Mother worked in his local office. But it was a great way to see what he and others were doing, and may have started me down the road to my eventual degree in Environmental Management. The mold is broken and there won't be another Jerry Waldie. The article is a wonderful tribute.

I met Jerry in the early 1970's and became part of his Gubenatorial campaign staff and my wife and I had many coffee's for Jerry. I also was fortunate to be Jerry's drive when he was in Southern California and made some of the march across the state. What a great person. I have always valued the numerous correspondence with him and was saddened to learn of his death. He has been, and will continue to be, remembered fondly.

Jerry came to the Democratic hq in Lodi on his walk up the state in his 1974 campaign for Governor. It was a small gathering of active Democrats in a small Republican town. Jerry made the effort and was as down to earth as he was impressive when he talked about issues. He joked that he didn't lose much weight despite the extended exercise. Then he ate another piece of cake.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Waldie (the senior one). But Fair Play for Frogs is easily the funniest, and maybe best, book about the California Legislature that I've come across (at least, that's the way I remember it from something like 30 years ago). It affected the way I've read every bill since.

Jerry had a heart of gold and a commitment to making the World a little better for all. His sense of humor meant you could count on a smile ever time you saw him. He was so proud of Jon and will be truly missed.

Like Nancy Burt--I met Waldie during his confirmation on the Senate floor...during that time I worked with a good friend Roy Gabriel of the Farm Bureau seeking to defeating his confirmation. Mr. Waldie understood the opposition from the farm community. He was a great California public servant.
