Carly Fiorina Opposes Flawed Health Care Reform Bill

Sacramento, CA – U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement after the Senate voted along party lines to move forward with Democrats’ costly and flawed health care reform legislation:

“This health care reform legislation is a huge step backward for California. In addition to raising taxes on the middle class, this big-government bill saddles our state budget with an additional $3 billion burden that California taxpayers simply cannot afford.

“The debate about health care reform is a perfect example of how decisions made by the U.S. Senate impact every family and every business in America. Senator Boxer has not lifted a finger to reduce the financial burden this bill will have on our state and on taxpayers. Instead, she has been a reliable and consistent partisan vote for more government spending and higher taxes throughout this process. With her vote last night, Barbara Boxer proved yet again that her loyalties lie with the special interests, not with the people of California.

“Barbara Boxer must be held accountable for her dismal record – a record that has consistently put the Californians she represents last and her own political ambitions first.

I am running for U.S. Senate because California deserves better representation in our nation’s capital; it’s time for a change.”

Fiorina does not support the Senate health care reform bill and believes that any health reform legislation should focus first and foremost on keeping decisions about care between doctors and patients and it should build on ideas that we know from experience work, such as:

Building on programs that provide incentives for receiving preventative care and for healthy lifestyles.

Reforming malpractice on a national level as has been done in California.

Providing greater access to lower-cost community-based primary care clinics.

Encouraging more transparency about pricing and quality of healthcare services.

Allowing consumers to purchase any health plan from anywhere in the country.

Creating more market-based competition for everything from health insurance to prescription drugs.

About Carly

While she is perhaps best known as the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), what is not as well known is Carly worked her way through undergraduate and graduate school. A self-made woman, she started her business career as a secretary and went on to become the first, and to date, the only woman to lead a Fortune 20 company. Click here to read more about Carly.

(Editor’s Note: With respect, to quote Assembly Speaker designee John Perez at his first press conference after his caucus unanimously elected him: “We don’t want to make the perfect the enemy of the good.” Nor was the full scope of Barbara Boxer’s diabolic fiendishness apparent from the mainstream media’s coverage of the Senate debate and vote. That coverage focused mainly on Sen. Me, Al Franken not giving his colleague, Joe Lieberman, an extra minute to yammer and the angst that ensued. California’s Capitol appreciates the update.)

Carly Fiorina says “Barbara Boxer must be held accountable for her dismal record”

So to be fair, Carly Fiorina must be held accountable for her dismal record.

While CEO of HP, she destrpyed 60% of shareholder value, eliminated 18,000 jobs, and then, in a classic example of corporate greed, she took a $21 million bonus when she was fired by the board.

Leave it to Fluff to take a cheap shot at Tiger. He couldn’t resist. He was probably the one that got Woods started with blond cocktail waitresses in the first place.
