Six Days to Deadline and Still Just Three Bills Signed

As of 3:30 PM, October 5 – with six days left to act on more than 650 pieces of legislation, there was no public announcement of bill signings by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Since lawmakers adjourned for the year September 11, the GOP governor has issued three press releases announcing his signature on three measures, one of them budget-related.

Sources say the governor acted on an additional 42 bills October 1.

Schwarzenegger has until midnight October 11 to sign or veto the measures or they become law without his signature.

Among the bills still pending, are creation of a fund to ease the financial burden of farmers seeking an organic certification, banning tail docking of cows and halting the sale of electronic cigarettes in California.

The GOP governor did, however, issue a statement congratulating recipients of the Nobel Prize for Medicine and called one of the doctors personally.

  1. I hope the gov. signs AB1245 (my personal fave, though minor) and doesn’t have another temper tantrum like he did last session. Not looking good.
